The Trek
Langtang region enthralls and simultaneously mystifies travelers with its myriad of mountains and an intricate balance between man and nature. Explore the desolate snowy setting and find yourself in a state of ultimate bliss. Langtang Valley Trek explores the Langtang National Park north of the Kathmandu Valley and presents the illustrious panorama of Langtang Himalayan ranges. With opportunities to grasp Tibetan-Buddhist culture and its ways, Langtang Valley Trek is truly a mesmerizing venture.
The Langtang region sits near the border of Tibet and aims to explore the famous Langtang valley and the majestic Langtang mountain ranges. The trek commences at Sybrubensi, which is 122 km from the capital city of Kathmandu. The natural journey provides a clandestine view of the mighty Himalayas and the trek accentuates the prevailing Buddhist traditions and lifestyle of the residents of Syabru, Lama Hotel, and Kyanjin Gompa.
Exploring the small communities in the Langtang National Park shall reflect the lifestyles of people of Tamang, Chhetri, and Brahmin communities. The lowest altitude on the trek in Kathmandu at 1300 m, and as the trek goes ahead, we eventually arrive at the highest elevation point which is the Tserko Ri, at a staggering height of 4984 m. The initial aspects of the trek are relatively easy and don’t involve heavy walking, but as the elevation rises, we have to navigate through the rugged, and steep trails. The weather here can be chilly in the mornings, warm at day, and frosty at night. The Langtang valley consists more than the Kyanjin Gompa, which can be explored by taking the Langtang Gosainkunda trek or the Helambu valley trek. Add a bit of culture by taking the Tamang Heritage Trek and feel the true beauty of Langtang.
Accommodation:
You will arrive in Kathmandu where you will be greeted and 3* hotel accommodation will be provided. On the trek, the accommodation will Lodges or what is known as a teahouse (Mountain hut). All accommodation is on a twin-shared basis. A single supplement will be served on request and at an additional cost. Lodges in most places only have shared washing and toilet facilities. Also, please note that single rooms are readily available in Kathmandu and the trekking regions at lower elevations but it might be difficult to find them at higher elevations. Regarding the budget, the hotel accommodation can be upgraded and downgraded in Kathmandu.
Food:
On your trek, you will experience authentic Nepalese cuisine as well as more common international food (Tibetan, Continental, Italian, Indian, etc.) Breakfast and dinner will be served in the Lodge where we spend the night and lunch will be served on the way to the next destination. All meals will be provided while trekking while only breakfast in Kathmandu.
Electricity facilities in trekking lodge:
Some villages will have hydropower lines but most commonly there will be a solar power system. There are likely to be battery charging facilities in most of the Lodges but for these facilities, there may be a separate charge (a cost of about 1USD for 1hour of charge).
Outline itinerary:
Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1300m).
A company representative of Hike and Bike will welcome you at the Tribhuvan International Airport upon arrival. Following the greetings, you will head to your hotel in the capita. Overnight stay at a hotel in Kathmandu
Day 02: Drive from Kathmandu to Sybrubensi.
Today, you wake up early and get on a ride that leads to Sybrubensi. You travel through the winding roads with major twists and turns to offer scenic displays of the surroundings. From the road, we can see amazing glimpses of Manaslu, Annapurna, and the Ganesh Himal ranges. We arrive at the small town of Sybrubensi after driving for 5 hours. Overnight stay at Sybrubensi.
Day 03: Sybrubensi to Lama Hotel (2410m) via Sherpa Gaon.
We shall get all our stuff together, and embark on the road to Lama Hotel. We walk along the banks of the Langtang Khola and later descend through the forests of oak and rhododendron. We can also encounter local Tamang people along the way. As we cross the bridge over the Langtang River, we walk on a steep trail that ultimately leads to our destination of Lama Hotel. Overnight in Lama Hotel.
Day 04: Lama Hotel to Langtang Valley (3330m).
We begin the ascent from the Lama hotel and are greeted by the mountain landscape and cascading waterfalls. We reach the meadows of Ghodatabela where you can see porters arranging on top of their horses. As we head ahead, we can catch glimpses of the Langtang mountain range and we enter the Langtang valley. Finally reaching the Langtang Valley trekkers take a breather at Langtang village. Overnight stay at Langtang village.
Day 05: Langtang to Kyanjin Gompa.
From the Langtang village, we shall commence our journey to the Kyanjin Gompa. Walk past prayer wheels and water mills to arrive at Kyanjin Gompa. This is the most revered monastery in the Langtang region. We cross the largest Mani wall in Nepal and spend the remainder of the day exploring the Gompa and its nearby areas. We will interact with the monks and locals residing here. Overnight stay at Kyanjin Gompa.
Day 06: Hike to Kyanjin-Ri (4350m) or Tserko-Ri (4984m).
We hike towards the TserkoRi (4984m), which is a great way to spend the day and take a break from all the heavy trekking. We shall go through yak pastures before finally climbing the TserkoRi. Hike up early to catch the view of in the Langtang range amazing sunrise lighting the landscape. We enjoy tantalizing views of the mountains well and head back to the Kyanjin Gompa after exploring the TserkoRi. Overnight stay at Kyanjin Gompa.
Day 07: Kyanjin Gompa to Lama Hotel.
We shall retrace our steps and head on the road to Lama Hotel. The trail is mostly downhill and we shall go through lush forests. We shall have lunch and we shall take a breather in the quaint Tamang villages. Enjoy the amazing view of the Himalayas as well. After traversing Langtang Village and Gumanechok, we finally arrive at Lama Hotel.
Day 08: Lama Hotel to Sybrubensi.
The road from Lama Hotel to Sybrubensi simply involves retracing our steps. Walk past green meadows with amazing scenery of the snow-laden environment. Catch glimpses of the local wildlife as well. Upon arrival in Sybrubensi, head to your hotel and taste some local delicacies. Overnight stay at Sybrubensi.
Day 09: Drive from Sybrubensi to Kathmandu.
Enjoy a typical yet delicious Nepali breakfast and later venture on the road to Kathmandu. Make your way through dangerous cliffs and muddy terrain. As the road is pretty raw, brace yourself for setbacks and bumpy experience. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, a company rep will transfer to your hotel. Overnight stay at a hotel in Kathmandu.
Day 10: Sightseeing in Kathmandu.
Today, we explore the major UNESCO world heritage sites of the Kathmandu valley which include sites like the Kathmandu Durbar Square, Pashupatinath, Boudhanath, and Swayambhunath. These sites have seen countless centuries and are perfect evidence of rich Medieval Nepal. Even beholding legends surrounding their origin, these sites carry the essence of the people in the city. Overnight in Kathmandu.
Day 11: Fly Back to Home.
Today is your final day in Nepal and our representative will drop you off at the Tribhuvan International Airport for your final departure. We hope you had a pleasant and memorable trip with us.
